"I last had surgery at this hospital ..."

About: Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I last had surgery at this hospital in 1999. There has been a marked improvement since then. I particularly liked the way the Urological teams worked together but the whole process from A&E, Haematuria Clinic, surgery and aftercare seemed to be all of a piece. I was given an eighteen week waiting time for surgery but in fact it took only 7 weeks. The wards were cleaner than I remembered from before and the staff much more responsive to patient needs.

What could be improved

Given the scale of the task in dealing with multiple admissions there are bound to be a few glitches. As a former management consultant I was more mindful of possible systemic failures but I am pleased to say that I did not spot any!

Anything else?

A&E could do with more doctors. I went there on a Saturday night suffering from great pain. But there was only one doctor on duty and I had to wait 4 hours. Meanwhile we noticed at least three security guards hovering around. Something wrong with priorities here surely?

Thank you very much for your comments. The staff at the Princess Royal work hard to deliver high standards of care in an often busy environment and patient feedback is always appreciated. Your comments will be passed on to the Urological teams at the hospital and other relevant staff. We hope you are recovering well.
