"Delay in diagnosing my son"

About: Wessex

(as a parent/guardian),

My 8 month old son had been a bit off colour for 2 days, so I took him to his GP on the Monday to be told that he was teething and he would be "fine". On the Monday night he didn't sleep, he was up for the majority of the night crying. So on the Tuesday I took him back, to be told the same thing despite, his temperature being over 38. The same thing happened on the Tuesday night, but after being told twice that nothing was wrong I chose to listen to the GP instead of my gut instinct. On the Thursday I decided to take him back to the GP because he wasn't eating or drinking. I was told to come back later with my son, I saw the GP at 4, my son's temperature had shot to 40.4, he was limp and somewhat unresponsive but the GP still sent him away.

I decided to take matters into my own hands. I knew something was seriously wrong with my son. So I took him straight to the hospital, where it was confirmed my son had a severe kidney infection and sepsis. He was on intravenous antibiotics for 5 days, he had to have a feeding tube as he was so weak and a catheter because he couldn't urinate and was swelling up.

The things that my baby had to endure could've all been avoided if the GP had actually looked at him properly. And I am disgusted with the way my son was treated.
