"Removal of kidney stone"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

I attended the ETC this week to have a very large kidney stone removed.

My consultant is fantastic. They were a little concerned that it was getting late in the day and I had not gone to theatre. They explained to me that they did not want to rush the procedure and that they might have to cancel and operate the following week.

At the time I was quite annoyed at this as I had been waiting since 7.00 am that morning. However I can now appreciate their concern as it was quite a delicate procedure.

My anaesthetist was a lovely person who understood my fears and dealt with me with compassion.

My operation went ahead and was successful and I was transferred to the short stay ward.

Once again the staff were fabulous especially the staff nurse and nursing assistant who looked after me before my discharged. Even though they were extremely busy nothing was too much trouble. A big thank you to you all.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments about your recent experience under the care of the Urology Department at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. It was reassuring to read about your positive experience at what must have been a worrying time. It was very kind of you to write and compliment Elective Treatment Centre staff. It is great to be able to share positive feedback which reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff. I can assure you that we have passed on your feedback to the Ward Manager of the ETC so that it can be shared with the staff who cared for you.
