"Camden crisis care and admissions"

About: Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as a relative),

My sister has schizophrenia. She used to have a team in Camden but then the gaps between appointments got less and she only saw someone when she went for her injection. Then she stopped going and no one chased her up. She got very very ill and then it was impossible to get the mental health team to see her as they said she had disengaged and so the GP would have to re refer. But my sister wouldnt go to the GP and anyway the GP said that the Trust wouldn't necessarily see her anyway after a referral. The police attended and contacted the mental health team who said they wouldn't come out as there were no beds anywhere in the whole of England.

Eventually she was sectioned by the police in the street half dressed and freezing. She was out of area so the Trust said she would have to go to the local A&E or mental safety place near where she was found. This made no sense as they did not know her and she was miles from friends and family, The police said that this was because this Trust said all the A&E beds for mental health patients were full and that the Trust had nowhere to admit her to.

In the end she was sectioned to out of area and then it took a very long time to get her back in to the area. And now she is back at her home and still had no appointment after discharge. We have complained again and again but the GP says this is what its like for everyone now.

How did the Trust get this bad?
