I visited the A & E department yesterday evening. I arrived with chest pains following a procedure I had earlier that day. The hospital I was had the procedure advised me to go straight to A & E. I checked myself in at the reception desk at around 11.30pm, the staff member here was quite pleasant. I was called up fairly quickly by a triage nurse to come in. When I got to her door another patient was standing there blocking the door trying to be seen before me after a few minutes I eventually was able to get in and the nurse briefly checked me over and I was asked to take a seat to wait to see the on call doctor. It was fairly busy but not as packed as I'd expect it to be. There was children being attended to and given priority which I of course understand. After waiting for 3 hours my father went to desk to find out what was happening as my chest pains were still occurring and other adults not showing signs of distress had come in after me and was being seen before me. I felt like I had been forgotten. The receptionist said to my father that I would be the next person in to be seen and that there had been other complications with other patients. But after a total of 4.25 hours and yet more new patients being seen I still hadn't been seen by the only on call doctor. When I left the hospital at 3.45am I still had symptoms but I was so upset to think I wasn't even acknowledged I left and advised the receptionist I would just have to call an ambulance if my symptoms worsened. I think it was a really bad service I had received and I wouldn't feel happy coming back myself or for family and friends to attend this A & E department. I eagerly await your response back to this review.
