I had an MRI scan yesterday, first time for me so I was a little apprehensive.
I have to say from the moment I got there I found the service, and the staff, top class.
I was greeted by a radiography support worker, who immediately explained that there might be a short delay due to an emergency patient who had been brought in via A&E. The radiography support worker went through the questionnaire with me and in a calm and friendly manner explained the procedure, how long it would take, the noises I would hear, the option of the panic alarm etc. I was led back to the waiting room and later showed me to the changing rooms and gave me two gowns (to preserve my dignity!) – one to tie at the back and one at the front – that was a nice touch and very much appreciated.
Whilst I was in the waiting room, one of the domestics/cleaning staff came to mop the floor. Although I offered to move, they worked round me, and the other patients waiting and had a smile for everyone.
The domestic left the floor sparkling and the room smelling lovely and fresh.
The radiography support worker then took me into the room with the MRI scanner where a radiographer colleague was operating the ‘machine’. As the procedure is quite a long one with many different stops and starts and noises throughout, it could have been a frightening or anxious experience had it not been for the radiographers calm and reassuring voice coming over the tannoy every couple of minutes to keep me up to date with what was coming next and how long each part of the scan would be.
Overall it was a really positive experience and both members of radiography staff are a credit to Torbay Hospital and to the NHS in general.
Thank you both!
PS – there was no listing for radiology in your ‘Department’ drop down menu, so I’ve had to select ‘Don’t know’
"Wonderful MRI/radiology staff"
