"Maternity experience"

Initial asessment when i arrived was quick. Would have been better if staff informed u of the progress of labour and what will happen next.

Midwife allocated within 10 mins. They were good at their job but lacked social skills. It felt as though they were there to do a job and did not want to go the extra mile to make things comfortable.

Midwife provided a good service and a second midwife came every so often for more support.

Hospital was clean and equipped.

After birth i was allocated a bed in the delivery ward. I was told that i would spend the night there due to lack of space on the ward.

My two yr old daughter arrived at the hospital to see her baby sister and mother, however she was not allowed in the delivery suite.

I requested to go and see her at reception as she was expecting to see her mother. Midwife agreed that i can go to the entrance of the ward but not leave with the baby.

I met my daughter at the entrance still inside the ward with the baby. A member of staff who was not a nurse or a midwife started shouting at me as though i was a naughty 5 year old. The ward midwife in charge came over and told me i had to return to my bed as i am not allowed to leave the ward. Both staff did not give me a chance to explain myslf that i was not leaving the ward. I did manage to say that the midwife gave me permission to meet my daughter at the entrance. The nurse continued to shout and said i was 'making it up'. In other words i was called a liar.

I asked the midwife in charge to ask the midwife if they had allowed me to meet my daughter and the midwife agreed that they did advise me.

I asked the midwife to move me from the delivery suite as i did not appreciate being shouted at and called a liar. The midwife managed to arrange a move to the labour ward.

The labour ward had many midwives and nurses. I was seen and asessed within a couple of hrs. I was advised that i can leave as soon as my discharge notes are completed. I waited until 9pm and i was told that the notes will not be completed until the following day.

The ward toilet was dirty, not cleaned regularly. The staff were loud during the night and u can clearly hear them talking and laughing.

On numerous occassions i asked for a pillow and only received it late at night.

They provided a good service and care towards the baby. All checks and asessments were of good standard.

Improving staff's attitudes towards patients could be improved and more feedback frm patients should be requested.

On my way out there were no staff to inform them i was leaving. I dont think they cared after ur discharged.

I must say they gave alot more information to me than queens hsptl. I was given advise, leaflets, numbers etc. They also encourage breast feeding which i could have done with my first.
