"Childrens a and e and ward"

About: King George Hospital

Started off at the a and e. Waiting time was ridiculous and they said there was only one doctor for all patients!!! Thats disgraceful... You have tired, moany, hungry and unwell children waiting hours on end. After being seen by triage waited again for the doctor. Eventually doctor saw my 7 week old baby and decided to admit us overnight for monitoring. Waited again to be taken to the ward! I was the only patient still at a and e. Staff shoretage is becoming more of an excuse i find. Staff are slow and lazy. They need to work faster and harder.

Now the childrens ward. Parents be aware u will not sleep at all. The uncomfortable arm chair is where u have to 'sleep'. Crying babies and loud noises throughout the night. Consultant was efficient and was seen early morning. I was told my baby needs a full body scan and i will be discharged if everything normal. Guess what??? More waiting. Kept asking staff to chase it up but they pretend they are soo busy with only 10 patients on the ward and approx 5 doctors on the ward!

Apparently they cant contact the radiologist as it has to be the radiologist that contacts them! Its just one phone call!!!!

I got soo frustrated. No sleep for over 24 hrs and no treatment or medication for my baby. So what am i waiting for.

Explained that my baby is not feeling comfortable as she has a skin condition which requires medication and a bath! None of which was offered me to. Sooo dissappointed with this hospital! No empathy towards the parent at all!

Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of your experience, I was very sorry to read of the long wait you encountered in our Paediatric A&E department and ward. Unfortunately, we are not able to determine how many patients are going to access our Emergency Department on any one day and patients that do access the service are triaged based on their clinical need, which can sometimes result in a patient waiting longer than originally anticipated. I will make sure your feed back is passed on to our clinical services.

If you would like to discuss your concerns further, you can contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service, who will be happy to assist you in any way they can to try to resolve your concerns. The PALS team can be contacted on 01708 435 454, or by email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk.

Yours Sincerely

Dr Nadeem Moghal

Medical Director
