About: The Whittington Hospital

Attended an appointment in January 2016 when I was told bluntly by a young consultant that it is highly likely I have cancer. The discussion was rushed without very few opportunities to ask questions about such most distressing news.

The consultant also added with confidence that the likely treatment plan would be the removal of the right kidney and ureter. At the time, no biopsy that would establish the type of cancer and its stage was performed therefore I found it rather shocking that a professional would already seem to know the best way forward.

Lack of experience I wondered?

On the same day I was sent for further tests in the 3B ward - ECG, blood pressure, weight, questionnaire preparing me of a future ureteroscopy. In the room where appointments are made there were three nurses, one more senior. When we were about to leave the room my partner heard how they were giggling and mocking our accent. She turned around to share the disgrace she felt. They were caught by surprise and apologised. Later on the same senior nurse saw me. They apologised again saying they "thought my partner was Spanish," hence their earlier behaviour. I thought that was most unprofessional, just simply gross misconduct, lack of professionalism?

Professional nurses talking behind your back yet, out in the open!!! We understand the shortages NHS experiences hence the need to keep staff like this without firing them... though we don't understand the management and how they can allow such behaviour to happen. We would not want to be seen by the same staff again.
