"Caring paramedics"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

(as a friend),

My neighbour was unwell during the night, I went round to see him and found that he needed urgent CPR action which I started straight away, as a policeman I have training in this procedure.

My wife called the emergency services and an ambulance arrived very promptly. The paramedics asked me to continue with the CPR whilst they assessed the situation and took details form his wife. They then took over and when my neighbour’s condition had stabilized they lifted him back into bed and restored his dignity.

During this time two more paramedics arrived, all of them were very understanding, very kind and considerate towards his wife who was very distressed. The crews took time to make sure she was all right.

Such a traumatic experience to go through for a couple who have been married for 61 years, the paramedics were very sensitive to this.

Response from Sara Coburn, Patient Engagement Manager, Governance, South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust

Hi Fencer971,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. I hope your neighbour is feeling better now.

It is always rewarding to hear stories of how our staff are delivering care and support to patients but it also sounds like you played a big part in securing a positive outcome for this patient.

We would be happy to share your story with the ambulance staff involved in your neighbour's care, however to do so we will need some specific information. If you would like us to do this, please may I ask you to contact us on either plaudits@swast.nhs.uk or 01392 453 831 and a member of the Patient Engagement Team will be happy to help you further.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to provide us with feedback.
