"Thanks to New Cross Eye Infirmary team"

About: New Cross Hospital / Eye infirmary

(as the patient),

I attended the new ED department with eye problems. Unfortunately I was seen by an ED consultant who glanced at my eyes but did no examination and sent me away.

Two days later, I represented at ED but that time specifically asked to see the eye nurse. I saw a sister -I think her name was Anne. She was so professional, caring, reassuring and knew about ehlers-danlos syndrome. She treated me like a human being. She referred me immediately to the eye infirmary for further investigation. (3. 30 pm). All staff were so helpful. I cannot fault the eye service. Even down to the boots pharmacy within the eye infirmary. I was given helpful advice when I got the eye drops for dry eyes. Dehydration certainly wasn't helping my eyes. Thank you to everyone that saw me.

If only the ED department could be as helpful as you.....I'd have been treated for my PoTS condition on the Friday. They finally listened on the Monday evening when I had to return again. The fact I could tell them there were clinical signs of dehydration in my eyes was helpful. I finally got the IV fluids I needed and was admitted for 2 days.

I'd be grateful if someone could thank the eye nursing sister in ED and the rest of the eye infirmary staff for me.

Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to post your comments relating to your recent patient experience in our Emergency Department. I am sorry for any distress that was caused relating to your first attendance at the Emergency Department but was pleased to read that on your second attendance your patient experience was much better.

If you would like to raise your concerns further relating to your first visit to the Emergency Department, I would be grateful if you can contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01902 695362.

In the meantime, I will share your comments with our staff.

Kindest regards

Alison Dowling
