I had to have this examination as part of my ongoing treatment for diagnosed Chirossis and Fattly Liver disease and I can tell you that I was not looking forwards to having it. The main reason is that having a rather large diameter rubber tube with a camera, lights and other accutriments and devices attached, passed over the back of my tongue and down my throat into my upper intestines and stomach for a poke around and removal of some tissue for further examination and diagnosis did not appeal to me one bit.
Apart from the fact that I thought it might be slightly uncomfortable, i was also imagining all sorts of other things that might go wrong and cause me further pain and tremendous anxiety, not to mention the anesthetic and pain relief etc. Oh my Lord what was to become of me!
But to my blessed releif there was no need for me to have been so worried. I attended for my appointment and was immediately put at ease by the nurse who explained to me how it all works and what to expect and who took great care with their empathy and soothing manner to ensure that I was ok.
I then entered into the inner sanctum where the examination was to be undertaken, and again I began to feel the fear and trepidation return to my whole being, but again not need to worry as I was met by two wonderful angelic nurses who spoke to me and reassured me of what was to come, whilst at the same time introducing me to the doctor who undertook the whole examination in the most professional manner possible.
I did have a few "gag" moments during the procedure but the nurse, who was in charge of the "head end" of operations was close by me and gently holding my head and quietly telling me what was happening and that all would be well .... they were correct.
