"Excellent visit to A and E at Eastbourne DGH"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital / Accident and emergency South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

Yesterday my wife fainted (? ) and failed to recover for at least ten minutes. Thinking she might have had a stroke (she is aged 83 ) I phoned 999. From that point on, I. e speaking to the operator, prompt arrival of ambulance etc I felt she was in excellent hands. The 3 ambulance crew had quite a job putting her on the trolley and we're obviously treating her in the ambulance as Pat told me she was now speaking, although it later appeared that she was not really "with it" until after she got to the hospital. She was quickly wheeled into a cubicle as they had radioed ahead and after a series of tests and a visit from a doctor she had every careful and kind attention that one could possibly hope for. It turned out to be a case of dehydration and she was released into the wild world again after treatment, about 3 hours later.

Dear Brianr

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback about the service you received when your wife was taken ill recently. I am so pleased to know that she hadn't had a stroke, which must have been such a relief for both of you!

It was also lovely to read your kind comments about our call-taker and ambulance crew, and that you felt you were in excellent hands. In a situation like yours it is so important for both patients and their loved ones to feel reassured and confident of the care they are receiving, and I am glad that was the case.

It would be nice to be able to pass on your comments to the call-taker and crew concerned, so if you are able to, and if you have time, please do email me at louise.hutchinson@secamb.nhs.uk to let me know the address that we attended and the date, and I will happily do so.

Thank you again for going out of your way to share your thoughts, and please do pass on my very best wishes to your wife.

Kind regards, Louise Hutchinson

Dear Brian

Thank you for letting us know about your visit to the A&E department at Eastbourne DGH with your wife who had fainted.

We're pleased to hear that she is now at home again and that staff determined what the problem was.

Pleased be assured that we will share your posting with the staff in A&E and South East Coast Ambulance.
