"Not impressed"

About: Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Took my 18month old to PAU and we were kept waiting all day with no offer of food and the test needed couldn't be offered as it was a weekend. Finally got put on a ward at 8pm well past my child's bedtime and after only been fed on food from a vending machine obviously my child would not settle and I felt my only choice was to take my child home .Now considering going private as I am not wanting to put my child through it again.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experience.

We are sorry that it did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

Without further information it is difficult for us to fully investigate your concerns; however, we can confirm that in our emergency and PAU areas, food is not routinely provided as patients in these areas are not formally admitted nor are they expected to be waiting in these areas for long periods of time. However, staff are of course expected to respond appropriately in the case of any long waits, and should offer drinks to the children, if their condition allows, and to their parents. If there are also issues with children requiring food we would expect them to manage this appropriately.

It is of some concern that you were waiting on PAU all day, and your experience was so poor, and therefore we would welcome an opportunity to discuss this in more detail with you.
