"Rotator Cuff operation was a success"

About: Leicester General Hospital

August 2014 I met with an orthopaedics surgeon, who said I needed a Rotator Cuff operation and they would carry out the operation in December.

I hadn’t heard from the General Hospital by early December and when I rang the booking department, I was informed the earliest they could carry out the work would be April 2015.

As I was in pain, I straight away I logged an official complaint and within 3 days was given a date of 30 December 2014 with an alternative surgeon.

If one surgeon is so busy and an alternative has vacancies, why don’t the NHS move patients to the surgeons to get the operation carried out quicker?

The surgeon has done a brilliant job on my right shoulder, stitching 2 tendons and grinding away a hooked bone in my shoulder and I cannot recommend them enough.

I had to stay on a recovery ward overnight, some chance of that, as someone at the nurses station played a computer game all night.

Every time I nearly fell asleep, I would hear music sounding every-time they won a game.

Not the sort of thing you would expect from a professional person.

This ward should have booked appointments to have the stitches removed and my 1st consolation with the surgeon, but they didn’t and I had to chase up the appointments myself.

My physiotherapist was with a senior physiotherapist, who was brilliant looking after the after care of my shoulder and another physiotherapist who ran the shoulder class, which really helped getting my shoulder moving and strengthening my muscles.

Overall I’m very happy with the General Hospital staff for my treatment, but the booking system and recovery ward, really need looking into.
