"Ward 28 nightmare"

About: Leicester General Hospital

I was in ward 28 the weekend of 27/28th February. It was horrendous.

It took 3 hours to get an anti-sickness injection - i asked 5 times in total, whilst sat with my head in a vomit bowl.

I never even got some of the analgesia i asked for.

The consultant was great but the junior doctor was very rude and abrupt - all they did was stomp off with my drug chart when i'd asked for them to see me because i was becoming more unwell. The junior doctor didn't ask for my blood pressure/temperature to be taken, didn't examine me (i was in with suspected appendicitis).

It was over 5 hours after my scan before i finally got the result. No one could be bothered to find out about it, let alone come and tell me.

The HCA doing my observations needs retraining - they wrote my respiratory rate down as "15 per minute" (which, coincidentally is what it had been every single time. Funny that....) and yet i was in a lot of pain when they saw me and my respiratory rate was actually over 30. This is really important. It's a basic skill that this HCA clearly can not carry out.

I was basically abandoned. Even the little old lady opposite me commented to her husband "I think that girl's got appendicitis, it might burst and they're just ignoring her". That kind of sums up my stay.

I felt so ignored on the ward i begged the night doctor to let me go home.

It's been over a week now and the doctors still haven't written my discharge letter, despite me ringing the secretary last week. They also still haven't requested an outpatient test i was told would be done within 2 weeks.

It's a complete shambles. I'm now going to have to go to my GP and ask them to try and pick up the pieces (even though they don't have a discharge letter, so will have to go by what i say).

If i'm ever ill again i will never go back to this ward.
