"My mother sadly passed away on Tuesday morning..."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

My mother sadly passed away on Tuesday morning in the Royal Infirmary.

I was called by my Mothers carer the night before who accompanied my mum in the ambulance. My mum has had dementia for a number of years. I travelled from Norfolk by train that evening. I was telephoned on route by the A and E department who kept me informed of my Mums condition.

I arrived at about 11pm and my mum passed away the following morning. We were moved into a small private room during the night. I have nothing but praise for all the staff involved from the moment I arrived at the hospital.

My mum was treated with great kindness and dignity, and the staff were so kind and considerate to me.

The staff work under hard busy conditions but should proud that they still manage to give excellent care. The Bereavement centre and booklet given afterwards is also excellent.

Dear Reviewer,

On behalf of the Emergency Department, may I offer you our sincere condolences. And may I thank you especially for taking the time to write and share your comments at such a difficult time.

I will share this with the broader team, and in particular our junior doctors and nurses. It’s been a challenging few months in our A&E (and hospital) and to know we were able to treat your mother with kindness and dignity means a great deal to us.

Thank you once again. Our thoughts are with you.

Yours sincerely

Pro Mukherjee
