"I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone"

About: Southport & Formby District General Hospital

I went to a and e because I was unwell and kept experiencing hyperventilation attacks and feeling like I was going to collapse. I was very distressed because I felt so ill, I didn't know what was happening to my body a and I thought something was seriously wrong. I am normally very healthy and in my whole 30 years apart from giving birth and one visit over ten years ago due to food poisoning this is the only other time I have ever had to walk into hospital for myself.

On arrival there was no one on reception to book me in I waited for ages and no one came so I knocked on the triage window because I felt like I was going to collapse, the nurse carried me in because my legs went and started ranting and raving saying "this is stupid, all these sick people I can't be dealing with all this. This is so stupid!"

I was really shocked at their attitude I appreciate that the nhs staff are over stretched and understaffed but as I was struggling to get my breath I certainly didn't need someone yelling at me and making me feel like an inconvenience. I didn't want to be there at all!

I also noticed some of the nursing staff standing around talking about their personal lives, considering they say they are being worked to the bone I have trouble truely believing that after what I witnessed.

Throughout my stay I noticed a lack of communication, doctors came to Medicate me with drugs I had already had and when I told them I had had them they simply said "well it's not in your notes"

I had horrendous headaches and kept asking for paracetamol but none came, sometimes would be hours later

my gp had sent me to EAU a few days prior to my trip to a and e and they ran a blood sample then which they said was clear. On discharge in a and e the nurse told me that an infection had showed up in these bloods so I challenged them and said that they had told me there wasn't and they turned round and said "oh well it must of been bloods I was looking at from a while ago then?" and then said they needed the bed, I wasn't happy with the discharge process because I had been made to feel like o had very little confidence in the staff that they were carrying out their roles to the best of their ability and had been made to feel more like an inconvenience than a patient.

The only positive thing I can say was that a couple of staff seemed nice and the meals were quite nice but overall I would not recommend this hospital to anyone.
