"My husband was admitted to the ..."

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

(as a relative),

What I liked

My husband was admitted to the Atkinson Morley Wing under a blue light from Royal Surrey in Guildford, critically ill on 4/5 December 09.

My son and I travelled in a taxi and arrived at about the same time.

We were treated with enormous respect, compassion and kindness from the moment we arrived. Ian had emergency brain surgery at 1.00 am and the surgeon came and explained it to us both before and after the op.

Ian spent 2 weeks there in ITU and HDU and no one could have had better treatment. We carry private medical insurance, but the care he received could not have been bettered no matter how much we had paid.

The cleaniless was exceptional, hand gel used religiously and in ITU the colour apron system practised., If we, or any other visitor did not immediately put on an apron, they were firmly, but kindly, reprimanded.

We were extremely impressed with the whole set up.,

If something like this has to happen to you, you could not find yourself in a better place. Many thanks indeed.

What could be improved

Nothing

Anything else?

My only criticism of the hospital, if it is a criticism, is the cost of refreshments/car parking.

For people on a tight budget, paying commercial prices for a cup of coffee, probably having spent a long travelling added to hefty car parking charges is quite hard, especially if the patient is there for any length of time. I understand the Trust needs to boost its income but I have some reservations about this route to do so.
