"They saved my life on Sunday 30 January 2016"

About: St James's University Hospital

I admitted myself to St James A&E on Sunday 30 Jan at approx 6 am after feeling increasingly ill with vomiting and lower chest pain, and having had no help from the 111 service.

The doctor who treated me was brilliant - they recognised very quickly I had a pericardial efflusion and cardiac tamponade, although these are not everyday conditions - and all the other staff were absolutely wonderful.

Within 2 hours I had been x rayed and CT scanned and was on my way to LGI for emergency cardiocentesis (where they were also wonderful).

I am forever grateful for the expertise, kindness and support all the staff showed to myself and my husband when we were almost incoherent with worry - A stars all round to the team.

I could not have had better care if I had been a private patient.

Dear V Cooper

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

Your post is a pleasure to read and I am extremely pleased that you had such a positive experience whilst in our A&E department and later under the care of the Cardiology team. I have passed your comments to the Matrons of both teams so they can share this feedback with their teams.

Kind regards

Rosie Horsman
