"Dudsbury ward an appalling grim environment"

Dudsbury ward is a disgusting dark, grim, depressing ward. How you people that run this hospital could think that such an awful hideous environment could help people get better is beyond belief!

The only decent place is outdoors in the gardens. Even then there were not enough decent garden seats. I had the great misfortune to stay in this dump and it was the worst two weeks of my entire life. There was a smell of urine in the sitting room and even excreta on the toilet seat when

I attempted to use them. My cousin who visited me walked out of the living room in disgust before we had even had a proper visit. Thre was also a strong smell of cigarettes in the toilets despite there being a smoking ban. I found this offensive being a non smoker. There was also nothing to do. It was the most unpleasant, boring , ugly place I have ever stayed in. the only respite in all this misery was a brief coffee morning where instant speciality coffees of various types were served in paper cups. In all black marks all round.

Thank you for comment regarding your stay on Dudsbury Ward in 2013 in which you raised concerns regarding the environment and conditions on the ward.

The ward you stayed on is temporarily closed due to a major refurbishment project.

An extensive piece of work is being untaken which is due for completion in January 2016.

We have taken note of the aspects of the ward environment that staff, services users and carers say make staying in hospital more comfortable.

We have also taken into account the negative feedback from patients about Dudsbury Ward and the impact it has on people's recovery. We do hope that the new ward will reflect this.

Not stopping there, the Trust board is currently looking at proposals for a longer term overhaul of female services on the St Ann's site, which when completed will provide parity of services for female services, however in the meantime the staff and management of the female ward are committed to working with service users to make their admissions as beneficial, comfortable and stress free as possible.

I would like to thank you for your helpful feedback and hope that my response provides you with reassurance that we are committed to making continuous improvement to our female services.
