"A&E care is exemplary, we were in great hands..."

About: Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath)

We rushed into The Princess Royal on Saturday afternoon as my 93yr old Nana had a fall when her blood pressure dropped dangerously low. We found her comfortable with constant monitoring and check-ins by the A&E team. They had explained the situation and even all the small procedures they were doing (checking her pulse regularly and taking a variety of other measurements and scans) as they performed them. Due to her age they took extra care and consideration to her hearing situation and ensured that she had heard and understood things without being at all condescending. The staff helped to reassure us too, and informed us as to what considerations we were waiting for and possible avenues of treatment at each turn. The ambulance crew that bought her in came and visited her when they came in again later and were pleased to see her doing much better. When she was moved into a ward, the hand over and move itself was overseen by the nurse who had been attending with excellent organisation and skill. He ensured she knew what was going on and the porter moving the bed was friendly and provided a smooth journey. Once delivered to her hospital bed she was quickly settled in and given something to eat (which she wolfed down!) and we were able to see that she was happy and comfortable before leaving for home, safe in the knowledge that she was in excellent hands with every single member of staff involved in her care. The nurses on her ward have been fantastic too, she is spoken to and engaged in conversation and the levels of hygiene are brilliant. You hear so many scare stories of older people care in hospitals, I was so heartened to see this is certainly not the case here. Thank you to all the staff involved in helping my Nana, she means the world to me and every single one of you has helped to keep her safe and well this weekend. I cannot thank you enough. Please protect our NHS, the staff here were fantastic and they service they delivered was brilliant, but they were still obviously overstretched and working within their means. The dedication of the staff is what makes our NHS so brilliant and the floor staff are deserving of so much more respect, support and most crucially wages. Please look after these people so they can continue to look after us.
