"Several appointment cancellations, and then..."

About: Nuffield Health, Leeds Hospital

I visited by GP for a problem I have been having for a couple of years now worried that I might have a chronic illness. I underwent typical tests and they found that I would need referring to the hospital. This happened relatively quickly and by mid-February I was being referred to Nuffield health for an appointment with a Consultant at the end of March. It was a little bit of a wait, but I didn't mind. I went to the consultation and booked an appointment for my on the 1st of May. My appointment would include sedation on the day and would involve starving myself and taking several medications the day before, which would make that day a write off also. I then received a letter telling me that my appointment had been moved to the 8th May. This was not good for me as I had an important presentation all day at university that could not be rearranged. So this appointment was then moved to the 5th May. I then got a letter saying this appointment had be cancelled also and was moved to the 22nd of May. I couldn't do this date due to my exams starting that week, and proceeding with the procedure could severely impact my future. Additional to this I cannot rearrange for the first Friday in June or the second (all appointments are apparently on Fridays). Then after this I have to move away. I rang up to tell them this, and they said they would see if another consultant would be able to see me and would get back to me. They never did, and today I got a phonecall from the pre-assessment nurse who didn't know about this and helpfully directed me to the right person. I rang the number given and spoke to someone. I told them all of this and asked if my records could be sent to my new Gp in Oxford in September to avoid having to go through all the tests at the Gp again. Firstly they started that they did not have access to the doctors appointments as it is the doctor who organises them, a problem I have had since the start of this mess. They were very short with me, and told me that I had already cancelled one appointment therefore I would not be able to rearrange no matter what and I was given very vague information regarding access to my information, and they used terminology that as someone who does not work in a hospital I didn't understand. I am in pain often and I am fed of being banded about between staff who can't get appointment information. I don't care about seeing a specific consultant, and because I have been put with this one consultant I have been stuck to their schedule. If you were more free with patients seeing other consultants and able to pass information onto other hospitals then there wouldn't be so much time wasted and probably excesses of money. Now I am without appointment and won't be able to see a doctor regarding this issue for another few months. Where I will have to begin again, wasting the NHSs time and money yet again.
