At 40+8 days I attended BRH for monitoring due to reduced foetal movement.
I ended up staying in the maternity unit for 5+ days due to complications which resulted in an emergency C-section. My baby also had some minor complications and due to another reason a couple of the ward midwives suggested that I should speak to a manager of the midwives as they felt my community midwife had missed out some important things. I agreed and the midwife made the appointment for me. I attended to see the consultant a month after having my baby and I was still quite traumatised from everything but thought that this appointment would give me some closure but it turned out to do quite the opposite. I was actually astounded at how uncaring and rude this person was to me and some of the things they said have upset me so much that I am still feeling depressed and anxious months later. I find it hard to believe that someone who seems to be so cold would be in this line of work.
On another note I would just like to finally add that (before this incident) all the maternity staff who looked after me from start to finish whilst I was in this hospital went above and beyond to help me and my baby. The care I received was outstanding. I would like to say thank you to the midwife that sat with me throughout my labour and held my hand in the operating theatre. Thank you to the ward midwife who changed my baby for me whilst I couldn't get up out of bed and to the other midwife that hugged me when I was emotional and couldn't hold back the tears; and not forgetting the other midwife that made me and the other women in my room a nice cup of tea even though they were rushed off their feet. You are a credit to Bolton Hosptial and the NHS.
The poor ratings I have given in this review are for the way I was treated at this seperate appointment and in no way reflects how I feel about the other caring and hardworking staff that looked after me and my baby whilst we were staying on the maternity ward.
