I recently took my 87 yr old aunt to Tameside Hospital for cataract surgery. She was terrified at the thought of surgery on her eye with only a local anaesthetic. On arrival, I advised the staff how scared she was. They took her terrified into the theatre suite & she came back 3 hrs later, laughing & joking with one of the theatre staff. Everyone was kindness personified.
The following week at her post-op check up, the consultant asked her how she felt after the operation compared with beforehand. He gently explained that they only want the best for their patients and hoped she now trusted them enough to allow him to operate on her other eye. Her immediate response "oh, yes please".
The doctors, nurses & reception staff are an absolute credit to the hospital.
Well done & thank you for reassuring an elderly patient who was very scared.
