"Lack of compassion and quality of care from A&E..."

About: County Hospital

I was admitted to A&E with a suspected broken rib and in considerable pain.

I had travelled to Stone that day from London and had hoped to visit my mother but collapsed in the street in agony.

I was quickly seen by a doctor and diagnosed swiftly and with clear explanation, the nursing assistant was friendly helpful and efficient.

However, my concern centres on the quality of care from the nurses I had contact with.

Having been admitted by ambulance and clearly in pain I was taken into a cubicle and thrown a gown and told to put it on.

No offer of help was given, I had to explain that I couldn't take my top off on my own.

Without an apology or explanation the nurse proceeded to pull my clothes over my head.

There was little understanding when I asked to use a phone to let my family back in London know what was happening.

The same nurse said it was unavailable.

After a doctor diagnosed the fracture I was told to leave and collect my prescription on the way out.

No-one checked how I would be travelling and whether someone could collect me; no-one offered to help me get dressed.

The nurses allocated to my care didn't enquire about my comfort, pain or needs once.

Still in a lot of pain I left the hospital and returned to London by bus and train.

I never got to see my mum.
