I wish to highlight issues related to the cleanliness any hygiene in the public toilet provisions for patients at the Outpatients Dept. in Addenbrooke's Hospital.
Prior to a recent clinical appointment I was asked to provide a "Sample" and directed toward the nearest toilet (a disabled persons facility).
This toilet was filthy with significant amounts of urine across the floor, urine across the toilet seat and toilet paper strewn on the floor.
This was reported to the duty nurse who telephoned for a cleaner to attend.
There is absolutely no excuse for unclean toilet facilities, which are a very serious health hazard. Especially when it relates to a hospital building.
German hospitals, stores and food outlets all, implement a signed for inspection regime where the facilities are checked on at least an hourly basis or half hourly basis, cleaned and replenished as appropriate and signed off as clean and hygienic on a wall mounted control
board.
A simple system to ensure cleanliness standards are observed and maintained.
I have noted similar failings in other toilet areas of this hospital's outpatients department on previous visits.
Standards of cleanliness need to be improved immediately.
"Urgent need to ensure public toilets are clean"
