"Confusing roles and responsibilities for care..."

About: The Maidstone Hospital

My elderly Mother in Law came in before Christmas. She suffers from dementia, is still there and we are no closer to understanding what we need to do to get her out and under the correct care package.

Issues including:

#1 who is in charge of the ward? ( Pye Oliver)

#2 each clinician, plus KCC care manager is able to deflect any decision to another party. Thereby diluting overall control and responsibility for achieving what is best for the patient. Each person is very careful to protect their own patch, but by acting in silo's there is no control and integration of effort. Appalling. .

#3 there are clearly very good and able staff and nurses, however one may question the motives of Junior Doctors (covering their backs) when perhaps a nurse provides good advice with the patients best interests but may not comply with the Doctors "policy"

There's more but you have enough to be getting on with

Thank you for providing feedback regarding your mother in law's experience as an inpatient at Maidstone Hospital. I was sorry to hear that there were issues regarding her care package and the lack of integration between the various parties involved in her care. If you would like us to investigate your concerns, please contact the PALS office at mtw-tr.palsoffice@nhs.net or by phone on 01622 224960. With kind regards, the PALS team
