I was struggling to choose a hospital at which to have my first baby so I regularly referred back to this website and everyone's reviews. So I felt I should contribute my own opinion and experience of St Mary's too.
From my first scan to the medical management of my miscarriage, I was so impressed and grateful for the professionalism, kindness and efficiency of all the staff I encountered. Bearing in mind the sheer size and scale of the hospital and the fact that these midwifes and nurses do such a difficult job and must have "seen it all before", I never felt like just another pregnant woman and during the worst of experiences, I felt cared for and respected.
My only complaint was the food I received while I was admitted to Ward 62. I can eat almost anything and it truly was awful. A plain cheese packet sandwich that contained at least 5 E numbers and a tasteless, mushy lunch of omelette, chips and beans that had been made (and frozen, I imagine!) at least 6 weeks earlier. I really didn't think the bad press surrounding hospital food was true these days but in this case, it is and it is simply unacceptable. Providing, nutritious, healthy food is what this hospital should strive for but simply edible food should be the minimum standard.
My story didn't have a happy ending but I did still want to recommend the hospital to others and hopefully I will be back there one day.
"Excellent service"
