"Mental Health"

About: St Thomas' Hospital (London)

I was not taken seriously and any answers I provided were brushed off and a respone of "Everyone feels this way" was given. I was told that I can't still be grieving for the loss of a family member as it happened 4months ago which I find highly rude and disrespectful. I was asked what I thought should be done in terms of treatment and when I suggested something I didn't want, my request was ignored and I was advised to do what I'd asked specifically not to be done. I feel that I wasn't taken seriously due to my age (19) yet when assessed by the NHS twice, both occasions highlighted the urgent need for me to attend A&E. Furthermore, it was suggested by the NHS that I speak to a specialist within the mental health department but the doctor whom did the initial tests just referrered me to another doctor as she didn't "see any reason why I should need help with my mental health". Also when asked to show any harm i'd done to myself, due to the scars healing/beginning to fade, this was ignored. It ended on the note that "If I feel suicidal come straight back"..when I could easily leave and cause harm to myself but just because I had been able to control myself well recently I wasn't taken seriously? Overall very patronising and made me leave feeling worse. Will never return.
