"The staff were absolutely amazing"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

I visited Glasgow for a christening and went into labour at 25 weeks with my twins. I was admitted to ward 23 at Wishaw hospital and was put straight into a side room. The staff allowed my husband to stay with me as we were from England and in a strange environment. The staff were absolutely amazing especially my midwife Gayle, who I certainly want to give special thanks to.

All the staff were very caring and made us feel that all their attention was on us even through I know they were busy. I was in labour a week and had my twins by emergency c-section at 26 weeks. They were transferred straight to the Neo natal unit and due to the amazing and very attentive staff there, they saved my sons life. They recognised very early that he had NEC and he was transferred straight to Yorkhill children's hospital were he was treated with antibiotics. My little girl thrived and did amazingly. They were both transferred home after 5 weeks to our local hospital. We wished they could have stayed in Wishaw hospital as the care at our local hospital was poor in comparison.

My twins are now 21 months and doing amazingly, no one can believe they were premature and I honestly believe it is due to the brilliant staff at ward 23 and the Neo natal unit. Thank you.

Dear Macyfish

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us about your expierience here at Wishaw General Hospital in both Ward 23 and Neonatal Unit.

It must have been really traumatic to be far from home and going into labour.

I am glad the staff were so supportive as we do realise how important it is to have your partners support at this time. Please be assured I will pass on your positive comments in regards to your care to the staff of Ward 23 and also Gayle.

It is good to hear of the care you received in the Neonatal Unit and that both your son and daughter continue to do well.

I will ensure the staff are all made aware of the lovely comments you have shared and they will be delighted to hear they made such a positive impact at what I'm sure was a stressfull time

I hope your son and daughter continue to do well and I am sure they will be keeping you busy

Many Thanks

Kind regards

Lyn
