"I was admitted for a planned induction ..."

About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted for a planned induction (childbirth) on my arrival and previous contact with the hospital it always had a small friendly atmosphere. The staff were supportive, helpful and very professional. I felt in control and safe in their hands. My daughter was born 20 hours later in the delivery suite, which was comftable, homely and clean. Again the staff were fantastic. I was offered and had an epidural b4 any pain kicked in (fantastic!) the doc who administered it was happy friendly and put me at ease! truly wonderful!! afercare was excellent!

What could be improved

the only gripe I have, was that my husband stayed in the delivery suite with me some considerable hours b4 I gave birth. Boy was he tired also! he, and im sure many other birth partners would benefit from a 'reclining chair' to sit on and have a little sleep if needed, as hubby was exausted and found the chair in the delivery suite gave his already problematic neck some gip. Thus when I eventually gave birth he was tired and in pain!

Anything else?

I loved it soooo much here that i'm returning to give birth again (another planned induction) on 13th Jan 2010. Its now beg Jan 2010 and the snow is here! but im determined (if i start on my own) to get to Queens whatever the weather!

Response from Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay at Queen’s Hospital Burton. It is excellent to see that your care was of such a high standard throughout your different periods of contact. I am sorry to hear that your husband was uncomfortable while staying with you.

In the delivery suite, the majority of Birthing Partners do not get an opportunity to sleep due to the demands of labour, however in the cases where partners do need to sleep the hospital does now offer access to a reclining chair.
