"10 stars to Christchurch and Bournemouth..."

About: Christchurch Hospital

I can't praise Christchurch Hospital enough!

Have just returned from GCA diagnosis with the consultant, who saw me straight away (I didn't even have to wait) and was totally attentive, knowledgeable, answered all of my questions and gave me a definite diagnosis of Temporal Arteritis.

If I had a choice I'd rather not have it, but they gave me something positive to work on, pointers to watch out for and reasons why I feel so rotten all the time on high dose steroids.

The nurses and all of the staff were so very kind, including the pathology nurse, the clinic nurse who held my shaky hand and the x-ray nurses who were so reassuring.

Even workmen passing by asked me if I knew which way I was going.

I nearly lost my sight just before Christmas and it is thanks to quick emergency action in Bournemouth Ambulatory Service and the opthalmic Bournemouth team that I didn't and was able to see all of my family (almost) clearly on Christmas Day.

And I never even had to be admitted, but was called up regularly at home to check how I was getting on.

How do you thank people enough for that?

Dear Ms Baker

Thank you for your high praise of our Rheumatology Department at Christchurch Hospital, it is pleasing to hear that you were seen straight away by a very knowledgeable and attentive consultant. Your comments will have a big impact on other patients who may have to face a similar challenge, so thank you for taking the time to let our staff know how well they did whilst also reassuring others.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and that you felt so rotten, but now that you have the diagnosis there will be options to effectively manage your symptoms and give you some relief. The team are very good at advising how to manage individual conditions and I am delighted you found that helpful.

We are pleased that calling you at home was also useful to you, something we are endeavouring to do more of as a Trust.

I will be sure to pass on your comments to the clinical leads for all the areas involved in your care so they can share this with their teams.

Regards

Sue Mellor
