"My son was admitted on new years ..."

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

My son was admitted on new years day 2010 after suffering epileptic seizures,he was taken to blackburn hospital via ambulance,he was seen straight away by the doctor and nurse, they where extremley helpful and kind, and ensured my son recieved the best possible care, after about an hour he was transfered to the childrens observation unit, the staff there where really helpful, especially when he suffered another seizure, the nurse spent time with him to assure he was ok.we waited about an hour to see the doctor who took time to check him over throughly, and to discuss any other concerns we had.we then waited to see another doctor to discuss treatment,we where then discharged, and told that they would contact my family doctor as a matter of urgency to discuss further treatment.

What could be improved

I appreciate that blackburn is a busy hospital, and the staff we saw where all very pleasent and helpful ,but as yet no contact has been made by them to my doctor to discuss my sons treatment.I have contacted the ward at blackburn to get information and they seemed concerned that the action has not been taken as yet.The discharge form we where given did not hold much information,eg-no contact numbers ,and could not understand the hand writing to get the name of the doctor my son was seen by.I was slightly concerned that when we asked for a blanket for my son,we where handed a sheet and was told it was all they had.

Anything else?

All the staff my son was seen by where very pleasent and very helpful, and the care they provided was very good.the follow up treatment after discharge could be improved though
