About: Birmingham Women's Hospital

I had a great experience at BWH from my first scan with the great care and support I recieved until I was discharged. The midwives were lovely and did a fantastic job at keepin me calm during labour and ensured that everything was explained properly to me and my husband aswel as giving me lots of support and encouragement when getting my son to breast feed succussfully.

The only thing I wasnt happy with was a comment from the dr tht discharged me. I was in the shower when the doctor came to discharge me when my husband heard them say 'who has a shower at this time of day' which I was really quite annoyed about and thought it was really disrespectful as I had just had a baby and was bleeding quite heavily. Other than that, everything went well and I plan to have my other childrn there

Response from Birmingham Women's Hospital

Thank you so much for taking time to feedback about your maternity care services at Birmingham Women's Hospital.

We are delighted you had a good experience and that all the staff along your journey, bar one, were supportive.

It is especially good to hear about your excellent breastfeeding support.

This is an area in the Trust we have been working hard on as having good coverage for staff to be with women when they need it is clearly so important to getting breastfeeding going.

We are very sorry to hear about the comment the doctor made.

What clearly was an off-hand remark had left a long impression for you.

We will feed back your comments to remind staff that even little comments can have a strong effect on a new parent who needs all the support we can give.

We are pleased to hear you are interested in having more children with us.

Should you wish to become more involved in all the care the Trust provides, please consider joining our Maternity Services Liaison Committee (MSLC)--our maternity user forum--or our Family and Patient Advisory Council.

Both groups welcome support from our users and help our organisation stay family and patient-centred in all we do.

For more information, please email connect@bwnft.nhs.uk or ring 607 4749.

Thank you,

Amy Maclean, Head of Patient Experience
