"Maternity service terrible"

About: University Hospital Lewisham

I had my baby 9 months ago in this hospital I thought it would be a ok hospital at least! to give birth as I was born here and all was good well not anymore. Bad experience the midwives were rude they didn't pay attention at all and they was not even 1% caring at all in the middle of my labour the midwife left and a different midwife took over who was even worse I heard them saying "I'm finished" and arguing with other midwives that they don't want to deliver my baby so they rushed it had a horrible look on their face for a while until I was pushing. After I had my son they left immediately and nobody came in when I kept pressing the buzzer to get help to breastfeed because it's my first time breastfeeding so baby's dad had to go out to find someone to help me and nobody came. so A member of the catering staff came in the room who had kids so and helped me bless them. They are not even a midwife! It is disgusting. And I recommend no one to have a baby there. Even in the baby unit was just as bad. my baby had tongue tie so breastfeeding was difficult and nobody came to help. He was losing weight from not feeding enough. We were kept in longer for other reasons. After 3 days I discharged myself because they was not helping and I was not happy there and they had the cheek to tell me that I shouldn't go because we need to keep a eye on baby. I had more help at home by family. And baby put on weight. I regret that hospital to the full and I can't take it back.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, all feedback is extremely important to us and gives us an opportunity to improve our service. I am very disappointed and sorry to hear about your experience at University Hospital Lewisham. This is certainly not the standard of care that I would expect women to receive.

At Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust we aim to provide the highest level of care at all times and I am extremely disappointed that on this occasion we did not achieve this. Your comments will be shared with the maternity team so that they can reflect and learn from your experience.

If you would like to discuss your concerns or if you would like to meet in person please do contact me.
