"NEUROLOGY HRI - EXCELLENT CARE"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

I was admitted to Ward 11, neurology at HRI

Sept 2015 due to suddenly being unable to walk!.

I was already under the care of a consultant neurologist and whose care has been EXCEPTIONAL!

I feel I must write this review as many of the reviews are negative. I do not believe my care or treatment could have been any better! My GP promptly referred me to a neurologist last summer, who sent me for a scan which showed a spinal abnormality.

The neurologist explained everything to me and I was then sent for various diagnostic tests and started on treatment, this whole process only took approximately 3 months.

At A&E I explained I was under the care of a neurologist.

A&E informed neurology and a doctor was sent to assess me.

Within 5 hours I was admitted to ward 11 where my consultant was waiting for me, having already organised, and sent me for, an emergency scan!

I was an inpatient for over 3 weeks and my care during the whole of this period on ward 11 was FAULTLESS.

I cannot thank ALL the nursing staff, the consultants, registrars/doctors, physiotherapists involved in my care enough, they are all amazing.

I have only 2 criticisms (both management issues). Despite the excellent care I received from the staff it was very evident that the ward was regularly understaffed putting a huge pressure on the nursing staff!!

Secondly I agree with comments on reviews regarding contacting the consultants’ office as I have also experienced problems getting through to anyone. I question how the consultants can be expected to work efficiently when they do not have sufficient secretarial back-up and staff are also trying to learn a whole new patient computer system!!!

I bet the Chief Executive has all the secretarial back up they need!

Give it to the consultants who are on the front line giving direct patient care!

The secretaries and admin staff, although unseen most of the time, play important roles for the efficient and smooth running of consultants time and patient care which is pretty obvious from previous comments!!!
