What I liked

I spent around 10 hours at the labour suite in the hospital with my sister who was experiencing a very painful and difficult labour. I thought the care my sister received, and the hospitality shown to myself, my mother and my sister's husband was the best I have ever experienced. If I had another baby I would want to have it on this ward!

As soon as we arrived at the hospital my sister was shown into a lovely room, which was exceptionally clean, homely and spacious. She was seen by midwives immediately upon arrival, and they were then a constant, reassuring presence throughout what became an increasingly difficult labour for my sister. The care was wonderful. It was hands on, compassionate, honest and very very professional. I also liked the way my sister and her husband were involved in decision making throughout, with choices of care and pain relief explained very clearly. Also they took great care to explain to us what precisely was making the labour difficult and what all the different readings on the CTG meant. Doctors were available, seemingly as soon as they were needed, and I do not recall my sister ever having to wait for any procedure or pain relief. It seemed as if nothing was too much trouble for her, or us. As visitors trying to support my sister we were really looked after too - told where the tea and coffee was, offered toast, and even a mattress as it got late into the night. All staff were kind and polite to us too.

I will always be grateful to the wonderful team at this hospital who brought my beautiful nephew into the world safely, and took such good care of my precious sister.

Having had a long labour myself in another hospital I would say the care here is genuinely a cut above the rest, and would recommend this ward to other mums to be.
