We had to visit the A&E about two weeks ago with our youngest son who had a severe nut allergy reaction and his breathing was also affected. The member of staff behind the registration desk was marvellous, they could see instantly that our son was in a distressed state. This person did not hesitate and brought us to the A&E so that our son could be seen to immediately.
The question I need to ask if our records are on line and when in an emergency the staff can log on to this information. Our son had an asthma attack but the staff kept saying it was only anxiety but all he needed was an inhaler to help him breathe. This happened several times until my husband arrived with our son's inhaler his recovery was almost immediate. I felt angry that I was not heard and the horrible thought is asthma can kill. We have learnt invaluable lessons and so has our son always take your epi-pen and inhaler with you everywhere. Don't rely on the hospitals to check your records and don't expect them to listen to you either.
