"The staff in the ED were absolutely ..."

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

(as the patient),

What I liked

The staff in the ED were absolutely wonderful and I cannot praise them highly enough. They were kind, caring and considerate. Likewise, staff on Phoenix Ward were exceptional. I have never witnessed such hard working individuals. Their workload was unremitting and they treated severely disabled patients with kindness, dignity and respect at all times. Phoenix Ward was spotless, and I witnessed no neglect of patients unable to feed themselves - in short, this is a hard working team that is a credit to Treliske. Based on my personal experiences of the ED and Phoenix Ward, I can see absolutely no justification for the 'weak' rating of this hospital - a point which I will raise with the HCC directly.

What could be improved

A day room is, perhaps, required for Phoenix Ward. Where those who are more able to do things for themselves can eat and sit in a little more comfort. A minor criticism lies in the fact that it is unpleasant to have to eat / rest in the vicinity , where the personal hygiene and comfort of severely disbled patients is being attended to. However, in the grand scheme of things, that is a minor problem. I also feel that the hospital pharmacy must improve the manner in which it works in order to provide for a more expedient dispensation of drugs to patients - I waited 18 hours for one prescription and had to leave with out another, due to the failure of the pharmacy to dispense expediently (medication ordered at noon was still not available at 1630 hrs).

Anything else?

During my stay, I encountered many members of staff. And with the exception of one individual, I was treated with courtesy, dignity and respect at all times. A special thank you goes to the doctor, and to the kind nurse who accompanied me to the scan (sorry I don't know her name).
