I need my bloods taking and usually go to the hospital for this, but I thought it would be more convenient to go to a local service. At hospital it can take longer to park than actually having your bloods taken. I was told on Monday that the walk in center is open on Wednesdays until 3: 15pm. So I went on Wednesday and arrived early at 2: 50pm. Bu I was told that the nurse wouldn’t take me blood and that they in fact usually finish on Wednesdays at 3pm - not 3: 15 as I had been told. Surely if the service runs til 3, it should actually run til 3? I had to leave even though on Monday I had been told to go.

I am very sorry to hear about your experience at the afternoon Phlebotomy clinic.

Our Phlebotomy clinics are open from 12.30pm until 3.00pm and we have 3 afternoon sessions around the Borough of Knowsley on a weekly basis. As this is a walk-in service we cannot judge how busy the clinic will be at any particular time of the day with activity levels varying throughout the course of a day. In addition to this, we also need to ensure that all of the samples are ready on time for collection by the courier service. You will appreciate that prompt collection of important blood samples is a vital part of the service. This means that if it is particularly busy leading up to the cut off time of courier collection, we have no choice in deferring some small numbers of patients.
