I developed a heart rhythm issue a couple of years ago. In these two years it seems to have taken a very long time to get tests done, wait for results, wait for next appointment etc, probably nothing unusual in an overstretched system.
Staff (nurses and technical staff) have been very friendly and helpful. Last tests were April 2015 and got results in December. Was told in April I'd be seen in Cardiology again but no news yet. This is the main frustration, not knowing where you are in the system, meanwhile struggling to carry on with normal life with no one to ask for advice, discuss medication options, symptoms, what I should be doing etc.
As the patient I want to be involved in my healthcare but this is difficult without anyone providing information! Months go by between appointments and I can't help but feel this is not a good situation for the patient, relatives or the healthcare system. My GP is great but they are in same position as me, waiting to hear from Cardiology.
Would be very helpful to have someone to contact, either myself or my GP, about appointments and also for advice on medication, symptoms etc, this could even be by phone and might free up some valuable clinic appointment times, some things could surely be quite quickly advised on if there was someone to contact. This would also perhaps allow patient to feel some level of control over their healthcare plans.
