"Amazing midwife & team."

About: Epsom Hospital

The support of the midwives/healthcare team throughout my pregnancy was amazing, I felt very supported despite being a first time mum. The facilities are great, I had wanted to use the birth center but due to complications ended up in the delivery suite & surgery. I would recommend this maternity ward to anyone. The midwife was extremely informed, calm and even witty when I needed picking up! The reason for the mixed review scores is due to two main reasons. Firstly, I believe they may have been looking at the wrong notes as I heard the surgeon say 'this is what you get with an IVF baby' I have no issue with IVF but my birth was not IVF, also It made me fret as to what was meant by it. I was heavily sedated but fully aware and followed up afterwards with one of the doctors, who had to assure me that there was nothing wrong with my child so I am still not sure what was meant, I was 36 so maybe it was because I was an old mum. Second low point was that one of the team of lactation consultants was extremely rude and made me feel awful to be fair to them I was a bit weedy after just having an emergency c section and trying to feed a 10 baby. I'm not sure the second is relevant as they were not EDH staff but I felt it needed mentioning as I am usually pretty tough and they had me in tears : so future mummies don't worry if this happens to you-the NHS midwives helped show me how to do it pain free with a big baby straight after surgery and I BF successfully for 6 months. I don't want to end this on a negative because the midwives where amazing, the minimal c-section scar is testimant to the surgeons technical ability especially considering it was not planned, I was in my own room and it was clean and tidy, I can't believe I am going to say this but I also was well fed!! the midwives were on call 24-7 and were always happy - despite my silly questions.
