I attended A&E at the WHH on the night of Sunday 13th December with severe eye pain after being referred by the 111 service, who suspected I had a corneal ulcer.
I arrived at about 10pm.
The receptionist was helpful and quickly found the referral email from the 111 clinician.
I was fairly quickly seen by the triage nurse, but was warned I could expect a wait of around 3.5 hours due to how busy the dept was.
I therefore expected to be there late into the small hours.
However, after 1.5 hours I was seen by a doctor.
They examined my eye and was very thorough, confirming that I did indeed have a corneal ulcer.
They were very polite, friendly and reassuring.
I was prescribed some antibiotic eye drops and was home by 1am.
I saw my optician later that week, who confirmed my eye was already healing with minimal scarring and it was thanks to the rapid diagnosis and treatment I had from the NHS.
I hear a lot of bad comments about the WHH, but I can honestly say I cannot fault the care I received.
I am very grateful that early diagnosis and treatment saved me from a very serious eye condition.
"Excellent care at A&E"
