i have had repeated blackouts and lots and lots of tests that never catch it. i had a knee op in Nov and then had a 25 second cardiac arrest and blackout whilst in another London hospital.I was not informed ! i decided to use the Reveal device/ home monitoring kit as i too have never had a follow up appointment or request to upload the data. Once i did this i was contacted by Barts cardiology team 4th Jan. i was admitted that day and the implant was completed. I have very high praise indeed for all staff , surgical and nursing. My op took 3 hours and was a bit more complicated. The surgical team were outstanding.

Risk of infection/ run down building.

However, they are undergoing a rebuild and the QE 2 building is in a very poor condition including Harvey ward. I was very anxious about infection/ MRSA. My room was not wiped down . I was not tested for MRSA and was not given wipes to clean the main areas that carry the bacteria before surgery. This would be my one, but very important, criticism. Otherwise - I am indebted to the teams for saving my life:)

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad to hear your satisfaction with your surgery and praise for our staff.

The QEII building is now the oldest part of our hospital in which we provide inpatient care but whilst it is old we are still able to provide a high standard of patient care within its confines.

Later this year the remaining wards in the QEII building will be transferring to a brand new facility within our main hospital building. All our inpatient areas are cleaned several times a day and we undertake regular inspection and audit to ensure that this is carried out to standard and that the risks of infection are minimised. Our standard is for all pre-operative patients either before admission at pre-assessment clinic or on admission to be screened for MRSA and it is concerning if this was not carried out in your case; this will be discussed with the senior team for the ward. I can give you assurance that all pre-operative skin cleaning is undertaken by the theatre team, often once the patient is asleep, immediately prior to the procedure.
