"Shockingly bad service."

I was assessed by 2 community health nurses for my mental health problems as I need help, and I am shocked at the lack of compassion , care and help they showed.

They referred me to an Art project which was 10 miles from where I live, and as I don't drive I presume I'm supposed to miraculously overcome my agrophobia and fear of social situations to do a bit of drawing, cos that will help me. Totally inappropriate which leads me to believe that the object is to fob you off, rather than listen, assess and agree an appropriate care path that's relevant to the clients needs.

They also referred me to IAPAT despite me explaining that I needed psychotherapy as my mental health problems are long standing and deep routed. IAPAT told me they couldn't help and refereed me back to the mental health assessment team for psychotherapy which I really don't hold out much hope of getting access to.

I feel that I don't matter, that I will not receive any help or treatment as there's no quick fix for me and that the wall of belligerence will overwhelm me.

This service is not fit in purpose and requires stringent monitoring and an overhaul of good practice as there was none in evidence during my assessment.

I am sorry to hear that you've experienced a lack of compassion, care and help especially when assessed by two Community Mental Health Nurses.

Please be assured that staff try to listen, assess and agree a care plan when meeting with clients but it is clear that this was not your experience and I am sorry for that.

The Trust would welcome more specific information so we can understand your experience better.
