"Concerned about the very poor communication"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was taken into Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham because I had injured my elbow. They took me to the x-ray and then told me that I would need an operation and that I may not regain fully use of my elbow joint. No one came to speak to me after this and 4 days later I had an operation and no doctor came to discuss anything with me at all, before or after the operation. So I still do not know the outcome with my arm.

I have a follow-up appointment at the end of Dec and then hopefully I will find out. But I am concerned about the very poor communication between the doctors and the patients that I have experienced. The nursing care was very good, but I felt they were too stretched, with not enough nurses and too many patients to look after. At night elderly ladies were crying for help and I kept getting out of bed to find some nurses. It was the orthopaedic ward which was very busy.

The physiotherapist was excellent and made sure I got my appointment.

Thank you for taking the time to inform us about your recent treatment at the hospital.

I shall forward your comments and concerns regarding poor communication on to the hospital who take patient feedback very seriously. I am pleased the physiotherapist helped you.

Best wishes for your next appointment and the future.
