"Speech Therapy at DGRI is a credit to the NHS"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

After brain surgery (craniotomy fenestration) I required therapy for dysarthria and dysphagia and I was referred to Speech & Language Therapy at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The treatment and care I received from Linda (Speech Therapist) was outstanding.

In the early days of my speech therapy appointments I often struggled with following simple exercises that Linda showed me, but her understanding and insight of my post surgery abilities/limitations was outstanding and thus allowed her to show great patience and empathy to me.

She went above and beyond her role as speech therapist often offering a listening ear and assistance with other issues regarding my recovery from brain surgery, for which I will always be grateful for.

I always felt my well-being was paramount to Linda and she gave excellent person-centred care, which had a positive result in my therapy and recovery.

She is a credit to her profession and a wonderful asset to the NHS.

Dear Michaela

Firstly, I'm disappointed to discover that responses to any positive feedback on this site appear to be automated thus making it feel impersonal, cold and empty. I feel there is an opportunity to learn from some of the staff within DGRI who have excellent person-centred attitudes.

Secondly, in the automated response said my comments would be shared - I quote - "forwarded comments to the staff concerned...as it is always heartening for staff to receive such positive feedback" but to my dismay and disappointment I recently discovered that this had not been done.

I know that staff feel they're just doing their jobs, however, positive feedback can help show that they are valued for the way they do their job.
