"Visit to A&E with Nose Bleed 23rd Dec 15"

About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

I have suffered from bad nose bleeds for a year now and my GP suggested the next major bleed I should visit your A&E.

Unfortunately I had a reoccurance on 23rd Dec 15 and found the hospital team extremely helpful and sympathetic, however they could not see the place where the bleed starts and recommended that I see my GP again for a referral to your ENT specialists which I did 29th Dec.

Unfortunately I had a bleed that lasting over 2 hrs in the early hours of today 30th Dec - eventually stopping.

I telephoned your reception and they say it could take up to 18 weeks to get an appointment - This worries me and I would like to know if this is correct please as I am considering seeing if I can get a private appointment locally if this is correct but as I am a widow and on a pension realise that this might be very expensive - can you let me know please.

Thank you

Response from Darlington Memorial Hospital

Dear Christine

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent visit to A&E at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

I am very pleased to hear that you had a positive experience and that you are happy with the care you received.

The Trust is grateful for all feedback, positive or negative, as it means we can better understand what is important to our patients, and your kind comments will be shared with the Matron to pass onto the staff on your behalf.

I know they will be encouraged by your positive comments.

In response to your question about the time you would need to wait for an ENT appointment once you were referred by ypour GP I have contacted the Central Appointments office and they have confirmed for a routine appointment you would wait for 5-6 weeks for an initial consultation.

If your GP thinks you would need an urgent appointment and it is marked urgent and the Consultant agrees you would receive an appointment in less than 5 weeks but they could not specify an exact number of weeks.

I hope this information is helpful.

Thank you for leaving your comments on NHS Choices.
