"Staff in A & E were wonderful, ..."

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

(as a relative),

What I liked

Staff in A & E were wonderful, our Dr in particular who made the experience less fraught and helped ease our anxieties following my husband's admission in November 2009. The Dr explained things very carefully and clearly to us.

What could be improved

Parking was dire at times. I kept having to leave my husband to go out and pay more fees for the car which we had to park near A&E on admission.

Anything else?

Thank you to everyone for all your kindness. The staff were generally very kind and looked after my husband very well. The only real problem I had was getting information from the staff regarding my husband's condition. They were not allowed to tell me anything and kept saying that my husband could tell me himself. Unfortunately, my husband had had a stroke and had short term memory loss, meaning that he had forgotten anything told to him longer than 5 minutes ago! I did eventually speak to a doctor, by chance, and was told something of his condition, but not really enough. This really needs to be addressed, especially as he was discharged into my care and I was not given any care instructions or fact sheet on his condition. I had no idea what to expect of my husband over the past few weeks and have only today, following an outpatient appointment, been advised of any of this. A simple fact sheet would have helped enormously and eased some of the anxieties felt. My husband is only just 53 and a normally fit and healthy, non smoker and non drinker, so this was a very traumatic time for us all.
